METARTUM PROJECT

Inside the Mitata and dry-stone structures of Psiloritis, Metartum was created — a digital application that combines art, tradition, and innovation, highlighting the natural and cultural heritage of the mountain. Designed for iOS and Android devices, Metartum (https://metartum.site/) acts as a gateway connecting dry-stone culture, folk music, contemporary culture, and cutting-edge technologies.

Through the Digital Actions Program of the Directorate of Contemporary Culture of the Ministry of Culture, the Androidus Cultural Organization, in collaboration with the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (Human-Computer Interaction Lab) and the Municipality of Anogeia, completed the first augmented reality art exhibition for Psiloritis in the form of a digital application.

The application offers a unique navigation and guided experience, allowing users to explore Psiloritis through art, technology, and cultural heritage. Presenting three original artworks, three locations, and three artists, the project focuses on the Mitata of Psiloritis, highlighting the connection between technology, art, tradition, and innovation.

The application combines contemporary artistic expression with the traditional culture of dry-stone building, with the Mitato becoming an alternative space for inspiration, expression, and creation. It documents the creative process through three unique performance-based artworks, bringing to life the first Open Augmented Reality Art Exhibition of Psiloritis.

Inspired by a myth from Ancient Greece, the artists created three new contemporary artworks, each offering their own perspective on today’s message and impact.

The Metartum Project opens new horizons at the intersection of tradition, contemporary art, and technology. It offers a journey of discovery into the heritage of Psiloritis, while leaving space for future expansion through new approaches that aim to creatively utilize the cultural and natural wealth of the Psiloritis Geopark.
